Let’s Do Something

Have you had any fun lately?

Are you going to join me for our cookout tomorrow night? I was bummed when we didn’t get to have our Secret Adventure last weekend. The stars just didn’t line up right for April and we didn’t get to go. BUT that doesn’t mean we can’t still get together. So, I’m pulling together a cookout at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow afternoon here in Maryville. Click here for more about that.

Way back in the day, when I was in high school, my parents often wished I’d stay home more. They spent a lot of time working around the house, fixing up rooms, planting a garden; generally making things beautiful and delicious for all of us.

But me? Well, there were plenty of things I’d rather do than weed the strawberry patch. :) So I tended to be busy. And involved. At my school. In my church. Wherever I found myself.

And it’s true that one can do Too Much, be out too much, stay gone too much, say yes too much.

But it’s also true that a life lived on the Living Room Couch does little to enrich your time on the planet.

So one of my goals for this site is to encourage you to get out more, explore the world more, and enrich your life more. No, I don’t mean eat right and exercise more. Other folks can talk to you about that, and anyone who knows me knows that’s not my forte. ;-)

But I do want you to have fun more often, and LIVE more fully. To help you do that, I will introduce you to all the great things there are to do right in your own backyard. Because I live in East Tennessee, that backyard will often include the Knoxville area and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (America’s #1 most visited national park, and one of my deep loves).

Eventually, Lord willing and the creek don’t rise, we’ll explore things to do BEYOND our neck of the woods. Tennessee is a fascinating state. America is a beautiful country. The world is a big place. And there are all kinds of cool things to discover.

What about you? How do you feel about staying home vs. being out and about?

What’s too much? What’s too little?

And how do YOU find the middle ground?
