Once you start thinking like a marketer, you’ll see opportunities to spread the good word about your business everywhere you look.
Unless you think all that “marketing stuff” belongs to someone else, of course.
But it doesn’t. It’s yours.
If you’re in any kind of business for yourself, you’re also in the business of marketing.
I know that feels daunting for some of you. Unless you have an MBA, odds are good that no one’s ever taught you how to market your work. Goodness knows they didn’t teach me anything about that in grad school!
And it IS true that effectively marketing your business requires a certain level of strategy and skill.
But even before you learn those skills and develop those strategies, you have to step into – and own – the energy of marketing.
“It’s happening… I’m starting on Monday, at 6:00 a.m.”
She wrote with certainty. My sweet friend and fellow entrepreneur announced her clear intention with power – and perhaps a hint of dread :) – in her voice.
Knowing how important mindset was to her success, she’d been searching for ways to establish a daily meditation practice that would help her start the day centered and clear.
But as a busy mom AND owner of a super successful, high intensity business, finding space for that Just. Wasn’t. Happening.
So she made a decision.
She would start small: just 10 minutes a day on weekdays. She’d post to her mastermind group online, whether she did it or not. And, she’d text me, her accountability partner, when she was done each day. In fact, we agreed we’d do this with – and for – each other.
Such a small thing. Ten minutes a day. What’s the big deal about that?
We were on day one of a family reunion, a three-day camp out at a beautiful state park in southern Alabama. My cousin, a project manager by trade, literally spent the last year planning the whole thing.
We had a special awning set up to provide shade, tons of good food, a rented speed boat AND bass boat, 100 years’ worth of family photos, a Saint Bernard…
…and now, a tropical storm and a tornado warning.
So while everyone headed to the campground bath house or other shelter, I couldn’t help but think about this week’s blog post.
I made today’s video for you right before heading to that reunion. And although this wasn’t a business event – the planning that went into it, and the energy it takes to manage it – was much the same.
